The Carter Family ~ Mike Seeger Page Two

Your instructor Mike Seeger shows each of Maybelle Carters innovative picking patterns via two of their best known songs Wildwood Flower and Jimmy Brown.

A Real live Carter is sitting there and I believe this makes this pretty darn unique.

Many of the original picking patterns were adapted from the banjo accompaniments of the Kentucky Mountains during the 1920s and 1930s.

Deeply religious people could write insightful lyrics - after all the Bibles defines sin - and Janette Carter, daughter of A.P. and Sarah Carter demonstrates her mothers guitar style and vocals and plays auto harp along with the instructor.

This would be ideal for acoustic finger style players and simple enough to pick up with rudimentary guitar knowledge.

Except for one thing!

Maybelle is tuned down to the key of C and your instructor Mike Seeger keeps his guitar tuned down and uses a capo! Confused yet? I am! its easy just tune to C# F# B E G# C#.  A child could it!

A chromatic tuner would help. If you really want to you can figure this stuff out. It would also be nice if you had some finger style patterns down pretty good already. ;)
