This is an improvement over The Alchemical Guitarist because it has the books which are more logically laid out than the monthly magazine articles with more extensive pattern charts and learning explanations. And it starts at a beginning with a middle and an end instead of monthly installments beginning and ending who knows where. Also there is only one chapter in Book 3 on finger picking so its flat pick friendly too. Travis Picking is what to learn and the very 1st thing he shows us in that chapter.
If I was forced to choose only one of the three items in this course
I would choose as my main reference book Fret board Logic SE, (special edition 1 & 2).
This 3 part Fret board Logic set consists of that above book and the lesson and lastly the book Fret board Logic III Applications Creative and Analytical. I'd buy the lesson too cash permitting. Book number three is better saved for last as it has some really extensive info in it about just about every conceptual aspect and common style of guitar you can think of: Music Theory and the Grand Staff, Technique, Rhythm, Lead, Styles, Guitar Arrangement and even Finger Picking.
This is such an unheard of wealth of information and a total change from the pulling teeth, divide and conquer marketing strategy that is so prevalently available to tease us into buying the next lesson or sign up for monthly or yearly stuff we may not use.
I'd say the books have most all the info in them and that the lesson mostly takes you through the books step by step which is a good thing. Also he plays some nice blues showing us how to use what he just showed us.
He also so does some nice metal style licks too and finally gets a smile on his face. I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you that this is an older 1983 product. Consequently the menu of the lesson is a bit odd but follows book one as far as I can see. Its a bit dry as a book, very serious. The guitar is supposed to be fun. A lot of what we are given is a new way to teach the guitar so Bill obviously wanted to make sure he was factual. You can see the concept growing. I urge Bill to go back and revise and reorganize the book and to republish anew, afresh! Lighten up a bit too Bill. We are going to buy your book if you make at just a little bit smoother flowing visually. Teach us a song even like "Let it Be" I IV V.
Well, Dick, it's got a good beat and you can dance to it.
