Rock Guitar Famous Riffs and Solos - Tom Kolb Page Three

Hey Joe - The Leaves - Billy Roberts/Jimi Hendrix. Fender Stratocaster. On this must know classic Tom does an excellent job of explaining how to play this song and showing you too! Being older I had heard the song by the Leaves on the radio. It was a more than decent song then and Jimi gave it the benefit of his own personal 'experience' to improve it further still. Its worth listening to both interpretations in your quest for artistic expression. Here knowing about the circle of fifths and fourths will serve you in good stead and help you remember the chords.

jb lenoir unsung heroYou Shook Me - Dixon/Lenoir - Led Zeppelin. Gibson Les Paul. To get that sound  you need a Fuzz Pedal, Reverb, slap back delay and brass slide in a 12/8 time signature.

You absolutely need your pentatonic scales for this slide work and to have 'mastered' your slide technique in regular tuning.

This is in standard tuning and a great lesson in slide playing. If its your first slide attempt - take heart and come back to this lesson when you are farther along.

You shook Me was written by Willie Dixon and J.B. Lenoir. The first version recorded was Mckinley Morganfield A.K.A Muddy Waters whose bass player was Willie Dixon. Wow!  J.B is a fantastic player and songwriter too!

Iron Man - Black Sabbath Paranoid. Gibson SG. This is power chord city and plenty of riffs using E5 and D5 power chords and the E Blues scale. Rockers need to know this. If you haven't heard "13" Black Sabbaths latest you are missing the album of the year! Way to Go!
